Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADUs) are a type of residential unit that is a considered an accessory use and permitted in all zones that allow for residential or multi-family uses. Currently Mariposa County does not have its own ordinance to dictate the rules for ADUs and therefore defers to the state law, however you may follow the Development Code update, which includes the adoption of ADU standards specifically for Mariposa County. If you have additional questions after reviewing the information and resources below, please submit an inquiry through this form or request an appointment. Be sure to check out the Motherlode ADU webpage for even more resources created through a multi-county partnership with the Community Planning Collaborative.
Once you have your ADU plans ready, you can apply for a building permit on the new Online Permitting System. Contact us with any questions.
