MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in identifying a man whose remains were found in the San Joaquin River nearly 35 years ago.
On Feb. 26, 1990, the remains of a man were discovered on the east side of the San Joaquin River in Madera County, near Firebaugh.
At the time he was found, the individual referred to as “John Doe” was wearing a short-sleeve white, tan and brown plaid cowboy shirt with Levi’s blue jeans. He was also wearing a brown leather belt with a silver buckle.
Deputies said that the man is estimated to be between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches in height and between 23 and 28 years of age.

According to deputies, he is between 23 to 28 years of age. They say that ancestry analysis suggests that he may have been of Native American descent, but being Hispanic cannot be ruled out.
