TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Porterville man was sentenced Wednesday for multiple sex crimes and other felony charges, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said.
The DA said that 37-year-old Erwin McDarment was sentenced to life in prison. In December 2025, he pleaded no contest to crimes in two separate cases.
In September 2018, the sheriff’s office was contacted to investigate the ongoing sexual abuse of a child. At the time, a 14-year-old came forward and said that she experienced significant sexual abuse by McDarment since she was seven.
The DA said in May 2020, he posted a $400,000 bail and was released from custody. He pleaded no contest to one count of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 and one count of forceible rape of a child 14 years or younger.
In May 2024, the DA said Porterville Police officers responded to a residence for a domestic violence report. Upon arrival, McDarment fled the scene in his car and failed to stop for officers.
According to the DA, McDarment reached the Tule River Reservation, and officers were unable to locate him on that date. He then turned himself in the following day. In June 2025, he posted $1 million bail and was released from custody.
In that case, he also pleaded no contest.
According to current California sentencing laws, McDarment must serve 25 years in prison before parole consideration and must register as a sex-offender for life.
