ICE is not at schools in Merced, police declare

MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Rumors of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at schools in Merced are being denied by the Merced Police Department, which posted on social media that the claims are false.

According to police, rumors of enforcement agents at local schools are incorrect, adding “there is no ICE presence at any MUHSD school sites.”

In a statement, the Merced Police Department says that they support MUHSD (Merced Union High School District) in reassuring families that students are safe and protected while at school, adding that “schools remain a place for learning, not immigration enforcement.”

The school district also reaffirms their commitment to the privacy and safety of all students and families. We appreciate the community’s trust and encourage everyone to rely on official sources for accurate information.

When YourCentralValley.com asked Clovis Police earlier this week about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in their city, it was confirmed by the department, showing that local police departments have been told when ICE is in their jurisdiction.
