OAKHURST – Helping One Woman (HOW) Oakhurst will host its February community giving event on Tuesday, February 17, bringing local residents together in support of longtime mountain community member Lisa Schneider and her family during a period of significant medical hardship.

The event will take place at the Sierra Senior Center in Oakhurst, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. Attendance is limited, and prepaid tickets are required. The deadline to sign up is Saturday, February 14, at 10:00 p.m. Registration is available online through the MySOS Event website.
Lisa Schneider has been part of the mountain community for more than 32 years. A devoted wife, mother of three, and daughter, she is known for consistently putting the needs of her family first. Alongside her husband, Taylor, Lisa has been raising their children while also helping care for her sister, who has special needs.
As Lisa prepared to return to work when her youngest child entered kindergarten, the family’s plans were abruptly derailed by a serious medical emergency. Taylor was rushed by ambulance to Community Medical Center after suffering complications from a staghorn kidney stone that became abscessed and ruptured, leading to a severe infection. Over the course of two months, he has undergone six surgeries as doctors worked to remove the stone and control the infection.
An MRI conducted in December revealed that portions of the stone remain, leaving Taylor’s recovery uncertain. Additional surgery is likely, and there is a possibility he may ultimately lose his kidney. Both Lisa and Taylor hope to return to work as soon as his health allows, but for now they face ongoing medical appointments, recovery challenges, and difficult decisions.
Helping One Woman Oakhurst organizers are asking the community to rally around the Schneider family by offering financial support, compassion, and understanding during this difficult time.
The February event will include opportunities to give through monetary donations, raffles, and auction items. While event tickets cover attendance, they do not include the $10 minimum monetary gift that goes directly to the recipient. Cash, checks, and Venmo will be accepted, and a dessert table will also be available. Those interested in donating raffle or auction items are encouraged to contact a HOW sponsor or chapter leader to arrange pickup.
Helping One Woman is a grassroots organization built on the idea that small contributions from many people can make a meaningful difference. Its motto emphasizes that one woman giving $10 can help provide a meal, groceries, or essential support to another woman in need.
The February HOW Oakhurst event is sponsored by Laura L. Gonzalez. Organizers also extended special thanks to the Sierra Senior Center for generously providing the venue at no cost and to Bee’s Bakery Cafe for catering the evening.
