Hammer attack in Visalia puts roommate in the hospital

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — A man was hospitalized Thursday morning after police say he was attacked by his roommate with a hammer.

According to the Visalia Police Department, officers responded around 4:40 a.m. to the 1700 block of South Central Street for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived, they said they saw 41-year-old Luis Rocha driving away from the area. Rocha pulled over a short time later and was taken into custody.

Investigators determined that the victim, who has not been identified, was struck multiple times in the head with a hammer. He was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

Rocha was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of attempted murder, according to Visalia Police.
