Police arrest parolee with machete in Corcoran park

CORCORAN, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Corcoran man was arrested after police say he was found brandishing a machete at Corcoran Community Park Thursday morning.

According to the Corcoran Police Department, officers were called to the 800 block of Dairy Avenue around 10:22 a.m. after receiving a report of a man sitting on a park bench while armed with a machete and acting suspiciously.

When officers arrived, they located a man matching the description. Police say the suspect began walking away quickly and attempting to conceal his hands. Officials say officers detained the suspect and later recovered a large machete-style weapon from the area where the suspect was located.

The man was identified as 34-year-old Randy Alvarez of Corcoran. Police say Alvarez was on parole at the time of the incident.

Officials say officers conducted a drug evaluation and determined Alvarez was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Alvarez was arrested on charges including carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, parole violation, and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Kings County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
