North Fork, CA – Your body is an electromagnetic field. This is especially well known in your nervous system, brain, and heart. This naturally occurring field is critical for communication within your body, and between you and other beings – human, animal and plant. Our body also responds to the naturally occurring electromagnetic field of the earth.
The relatively recent explosion of man-made electromagnetic fields is unprecedented in human history. We have come to take these for granted, but at what cost? These fields can be seen as “poison” that is damaging our health. You may be surprised by the symptoms listed below that can be the result of these modern exposures. And these are just the acute symptoms. Chronic health problems include several types of cancer, heart disease, neurological diseases, and more. An excellent resource to learn more is the book “The Invisible Rainbow” by Arthur Firstenberg.
Man-made electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are categorized into four main types.
- Electric fields
- Magnetic fields
- Radio Frequency (RF)
- Dirty Electricity
Electric field exposures come from your house wiring, electric blankets, corded appliances, and your smart meter. Magnetic fields are present with power lines, wiring errors in your house, electric clocks, and motors (such as the refrigerator). Radio Frequency exposures come from cellphones, cordless phones, smart meters, smart devices, WiFi, and Bluetooth. Dirty electricity is present in dimmer switches, power inverters, motors, and wireless devices.
This is a simplification of a very complex subject. As you can see, many common devices emit more than one of these fields. They are invisible, penetrate practically everything, and have health effects on everyone. In addition to interfering with your body’s own electromagnetic communication system, these man-made fields oscillate your cells and damage your tissues. And the effects are cumulative.

What can you do? Remove all electronics from your bedroom, and turn off the WiFi at night. Getting a good night sleep is critical for your health. Avoid all smart appliances. Hard wire devices for accessing the internet – use an ethernet cable from the router to the computer, use a wired keyboard, mouse and printer. Ask your utility company to remove your smart meter and replace it with an analog meter. Eliminate all dimmer switches in your house. Do not live near or under high power lines. Avoid Bluetooth devices.
Use your cell phone with great caution and have respect for its harmful effects on you. This is likely your greatest exposure to these harmful fields. Never put it against your body. Even the manufacturers tell you this if you read the fine print. Use the speaker or an air tube headset (it works like a stethoscope), or text. Avoid using it in a vehicle, as exposures are higher due to the metal and to your location constantly changing. Put it on airplane mode while driving, and any other time you are not expecting an urgent call. Turn off WiFi and Bluetooth when not being used. Never, ever sleep with it on and near you. Your exposure is greater where the signal is weak, as the power output has to be higher to connect. Use a corded landline phone when home; forward your cell phone to it, and then turn the cell phone off.
Next time you feel fatigued, not as mentally sharp, have a headache, or notice a funny rhythm to your heart – think about your man-made electromagnetic field exposures and take a break. These technologies come with a cost to your health that you would do well to be aware of. Remember how good it feels when you go camping and forget you even have a phone, or when the power goes out and you have no choice.
