How Fresno airport is affected by rising violence in Mexico

NOTE: The video in this story is from an earlier report.

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) announced they are working closely with international airline partners after rising tension in Mexico caused flight delays.

The tension came after Mexican authorities killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, “El Mencho, ” on Sunday. Since then, the cartel has been retaliating in multiple cities across Mexico.

As a result of the escalating violence, FAT said two Guadalajara flight arrivals and two departures were cancelled on Sunday, along with an additional delay for another flight. Central Valley families who spoke with YourCentralValley.com said that they are left stranded in these cities as some airports had closed down and local stores closed to shelter in place.

As of Monday, FAT says they have not been notified of any Guadalajara or other international flight cancellations or delays, adding the scheduled early morning flights between Fresno and Morelia, Mexico, operated as planned.
