The River Boat Fire started on the afternoon of February 25, 2026 approximately 1.5 miles southeast of Jefferson, Texas and was initially responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local fire departments.
This fire started during a period of elevated fire weather, including higher than normal temperatures and low relative humidity. Critically dry fuels, combined with this weather have resulted in large fire potential for this portion of Texas.
