A prescribed burn is scheduled for April 6 & 7 (Monday and Tuesday) 23 miles south of Conner MT
Please continue to follow this posting as conditions may change.
Firefighters are preparing to reduce hazardous fuels in the Hughes Creek prescribed burn area, east of the West Fork River and Highway 473 and within the Hughes Creek and Castner Creek drainages. To see this area, please refer to the Bitterroot National Forest proposed prescribed burn map at http://tiny.cc/PrescribedBurnMap
On April 6, firefighters plan to use hand ignitions on 250 acres to remove fuel and create a blackened control line. On April 7, an Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) will be used to help ignite vegetation in a safe and controlled way using plastic sphere dispensers. After ignitions, firefighters will continue to extinguish any remaining heat.
No closures are expected. Smoke impacts may be localized to Hughes Creek, Alta and Hwy 473 south of Painted Rocks Lake. Updates will be provided.
