KANSAS CITY, Kansas (KSEE/KGPE) – A 21-year-old from Porterville was arrested on Friday on charges of conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).
According to the federal Department of Justice, 21-year-old Elias Shamsaldeen was arrested in Kansas City along with two others: 21-year-old Bisaam Ghafoor of Leawood in Kansas, and 25-year-old Bereen Dzayee of Lakeside in California.
All three were arrested after allegedly providing over $2,000 to an individual they understood to be a member of ISIS. The criminal complaint states that the 21-year-old from Porterville expressed an interest in stabbing and injuring a U.S. servicemember.
“These subjects allegedly swore allegiance to ISIS, plotted multiple attacks, and even targeted U.S. service members — but this FBI stopped them cold,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “The success of this op shows once again the FBI’s continued record of stopping terrorist attacks before they happen.”
The criminal complaint also details that the three arrested communicated about their plans to support ISIS, and pledged allegiance to ISIS and its leader.
