HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Hanford is set to open a time capsule from 1976 in front of residents on Thursday, according to the City of Hanford.
The time capsule has been located in front of the Police Department for the last 50 years, according to the city. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the event. The capsule will be opened at 5:00 p.m. on July 9 in front of the Hanford Police Department.

Many residents in the community have voiced their excitement over opening the capsule, according to the City of Hanford.
“The community’s interest reminds us how meaningful this piece of Hanford’s history is. We are pleased to move forward with the opening and invite everyone to join us for this memorable occasion,” said City Manager Chris Tavarez.
City officials will be present and will provide remarks before the capsule is opened. The City of Hanford states that the relic shows that celebrating and preserving the rich history of the city is something they are proud of.
