MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A fast-moving wildfire broke out near the southern edge of Mariposa County Wednesday afternoon.
According to CalFire, the “Van Fire” was reported around 2:30 p.m. and had grown to 1,108 acres by 4:30 p.m.
About 15 minutes after being spotted, crews say a 20-acre spot fire ignited across White Rock Road.
Fortunately, no homes are currently threatened, but per pictures of the surrounding area, heavy smoke is accumulating.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but updates will be provided as they become available.
