FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of a scam asking people for money through text.
Deputies say scammers sent a text using the recipient’s real name, claiming they have an incomplete CCW permit and must follow a link to a company called Advanced Training Portal to pay a $45 fee.
Once the link is clicked, investigators say it auto-populates the recipient’s name, email address, and phone number before asking to enter a credit card number.
The sheriff’s office says they will never ask for payment, solicitations, or fines over the phone.
