FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo announced the birth of two African lion cubs.

Zamaya, an African lion, gave birth to her second litter of cubs on the 4th of July. The Zoo’s Animal Care and Veterinary teams are closely observing the mother and her two cubs as they rest and bond with each other.
“Both mom and the cubs will stay behind-the-scenes until they have received all their vaccines and are ready to meet the public and the rest of our lion pride,” said Nicole Presley, the General Curator.

Zamaya’s first litter was born in 2024, and they are at the zoo today. The IUCN Red List considers African lions to be “vulnerable” in their natural habitat. The zoo says they take pride in helping protect and conserve this species.
