FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A time capsule deep underneath where Forever 21 used to be located at Fresno’s Fashion Fair Mall is safe even after demolition began on the building earlier this month.
The capsule, which was previously sealed underground, was removed from the site prior to the demolition getting underway, officials say. The Forever 21 building was home to Gottschalks and Weinstock’s department store before that.

According to Fashion Fair, the time capsule is safe and fully protected after it was carefully removed from the site. It is now secured with mall management, officials say.
Details are still being finalized, but the updated display will be unveiled next year.

Staff members at Fashion Fair are working with the Fresno Historic Preservation Society on a new above‑ground home for the capsule. The updated display will be unveiled next year.
The time capsule is still scheduled to be opened in 2070.
