FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 42-year-old-man from Reedley pleaded guilty to multiple drug-related and gun charges on Friday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

David Joseph Yama was scheduled to begin trial on July 27, according to officials. Days before the trial on July 24, Yama pleaded guilty to possession of fentanyl and Xanax with intent to distribute, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The DOJ says Yama also pleaded guilty to three counts of being a felon in possession of ammunition and one count of possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking offense. The court accepted the plea and vacated the trial.

In September of 2020, Yama was found to be in possession of over 200 fentanyl pills, over 100 Xanax pills, and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, according to the DOJ. Yama was found with illegal drugs, ammunition, a silencer, and a ghost gun in a separate incident in January 2021, according to officials.

Officers searched a trailer that belonged to Yama in May 2019. The DOJ says that a drug lab was found in the trailer with residue of fentanyl inside.

Yama will be sentenced on October 19, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“Yama faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and alprazolam (Xanax); up to 15 years in prison and $250,000 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition; and up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for possession with intent to distribute alprazolam,” according to the DOJ.
