FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Investigators are searching for the occupant of a garage living space that was destroyed in a fire Saturday afternoon in Fresno.

According to Fresno Fire, they responded to a report of a residential structure fire near Orchard and Weldon avenues.

Investigators say the residents of the nearby home were notified of the fire by a family who was coming back from church and noticed the smoke.

Responding crews arrived to find a detached garage that was converted to a living space engulfed in smoke.

Firefighters immediately began a fire attack while searching for anyone inside. Crews reported no one was found.

Fresno Fire says most of the detached garage was consumed in the fire, along with a nearby vehicle, which sustained extensive damage.

Investigators are actively working to determine the suspicious circumstances that led to the fire.
