Current Situation: On Monday, California Interagency Incident Management Team 5 arrived in Vale, Oregon, to take command of the ongoing Hat Fire. We want to take a moment to acknowledge and commend the dedicated firefighters who have been working around the clock, facing challenging conditions to contain and suppress the Hat Fire. Through their efforts, significant progress has been made to successfully hold the fire in its current footprint, with no new growth yesterday.   

Today, firefighters will continue to monitor and secure the area while improving the existing containment lines. Additional firefighters have arrived to assist in constructing a hand line in areas where dozers cannot be effectively used. They will also focus on mopping up along the fire’s edge and extinguishing any burning or smoldering vegetation. This process may take several days to ensure that there is no threat to the containment lines. 

Weather and Air Quality: The large high-pressure dome anchored over the Desert Southwest will continue through late week, bringing warm temperatures and low relative humidity. Wildfire smoke from fires across Oregon and southwest Idaho will cause persistent haze and degraded air quality.
