Helping One Woman (HOW) Oakhurst is inviting the mountain community to come together for an evening of generosity, encouragement, and connection as it honors this month’s recipient, Christy Robesky, during its August dinner on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
The monthly event will be held at the Sierra Senior Center in Oakhurst. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 6 p.m.
Unlike many fundraising events, HOW’s mission is simple: provide direct, immediate support to a local individual facing a difficult season of life. Each month, the community gathers to share a meal, hear the recipient’s story, and help lighten the burden through financial gifts and community support.
This month’s dinner will celebrate Robesky, who is being sponsored by Brittany Gregory. Guests will enjoy a catered meal from Willow Creek Catering, with entrée choices including Sweet Mesquite Tri Tip with Chimichurri, Grilled Marinated Chicken with Mango Avocado Compote, or a Marinated Portobello served over zucchini pasta. Meals also include roasted Yukon potatoes, a spinach arugula salad, and tea or water.
The evening will also feature raffle prizes, desserts, and auction opportunities, with proceeds going directly to Robesky. In keeping with HOW tradition, attendees are also asked to bring a minimum $10 gift for the recipient, payable by cash, check, or Venmo at the door.
Organizers encourage anyone in the community to attend—even those who don’t personally know the recipient. Men, women, and children are all welcome, and the event is designed to introduce neighbors to one another while making a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
Reservations are required and must be made in advance. Meals must be prepaid online, with no ticket sales or walk-ins available on the night of the event. The reservation deadline is Sunday, Aug. 16 at noon.
Those interested in donating raffle items, auction items, or desserts are encouraged to contact the HOW Oakhurst team. Organizers note that every dollar raised through recipient gifts, raffles, auctions, and dessert sales goes directly to the monthly recipient.
Community members can also nominate someone to become a future HOW recipient by attending a dinner and completing a nomination form. The September recipient will be selected during the Aug. 18 event.
