
Responsibility
Registered Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for regulating the operation of tattoos, permanent cosmetics, body piercing, and branding facilities and practitioners in Mariposa County in compliance with the California Safe Body Art Act.
Functions
- Provide education to the public to prevent health and safety issues regarding Body Art and act as a resource for health and safety issues.
- Permit and annually inspect facilities and practitioners to ensure operation is within compliance with the California Safe Body Art Act, an excerpt from the California Health and Safety Code.
- Conduct complaint investigations to ensure facilities and practitioners are in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Requirements
Each new facility must fill out a permit application to apply for a Permit to Operate. Body Art facility permits are not transferable. Upon ownership change, the new owner must obtain a new Permit to Operate before business operation.
