The officer was responding to call of possible domestic violence after witnesses say they saw a man and woman arguing in a grey SUV.
Police say the woman got out of the vehicle crying. The officer asked the man to take his keys out of the ignition when suddenly he took off.
"The officer was trying to stop the guy from driving away and he dragged the officer 50 yards before the officer was able to let go. The officer rolled on the asphalt striking his head, shoulders and legs," Lt. Herman Silva said.
Police surrounded the home and say seven people came out. The suspect refused.
"We entered the residence. He was hiding under a couch and refused to come out. The K9 was applied he immediately complied after that and was taken into custody," Silva said.
The suspect was treated for a wound on his right forearm before being taken to the Fresno County Jail. He will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. He also has a felony warrant for his arrest.
The injured officer may have a concussion.
