Parlier PD Conducts Another Gang Sweep, Following Triple Shooting Two Weeks Ago

The Parlier Police Department teamed up with Orange Cove, Selma, Sanger, Firebaugh, Coalinga, and Avenal state prison officers on Saturday for a gang sweep in the City of Parlier.

Police Chief David Cerda said they’ve arrested at least four gang members in Saturday’s operation, that went from 2pm to 10pm.

Cerda said, "This will be one of many more to come."

Cerda said Saturday’s gang sweep was an intensified version of the gang sweep initiated by the department two weeks ago. On May 2nd, Cerda reported his had arrested six gang members, and called the operation victorious. However, the celebration didn’t last for long.

"It was pretty gut wrenching to hear that the next week, I mean, the following day, that there was a shooting," said Cerda.

On Sunday, May 3rd, just a day after Parlier PD’s gang sweep, investigators said three 18-year old men were shot at Veteran’s Park, allegedly by gang members. Sandra Ching said her nephew, Jacob Padilla, was one of the victims who suffered non-life threatening wounds from the shooting. Investigators said the three victims are not in a gang and were simply at the park to exercise.

Ching said, "It’s super out of control and it needs to stop. Innocent children are getting hurt."

Cerda said Saturday’s gang sweep was in direct response to what he calls an "intolerable act".

The suspects in the Veteran’s Park shooting are still on the loose, and so are those responsible for shooting 16-year old Brianna Ramirez in the eye.

"That’s why today, we have even more agencies participating in this operation today," said Cerda.

Cerda said it’s going to be a collaborative effort to help wipe the Nortenos and Bulldog gang members off his streets.

Many of the gang arrests made on Saturday were for various probation violations, like being in possession of drugs and weapons.
