Porterville Mourning Loss of Toddler Hit By Mail Truck

Porterville Police say a toddler has died after being hit by a United States Postal Service truck delivering mail in a neighborhood.

The parents of 18 month old T.J. Treviño who was the victim of the accident Friday afternoon say they are in need of community support to get through this heartbreaking loss.

The accident happened near Delta and Aurora in Porterville. Police say they don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident and the U.S. Postal Service is fully cooperating with the investigation.

The community is taking the loss of this toddler very hard. Porterville police officers who worked the scene are working with counselors to process such a heartbreaking loss.

"Many of our staff have children that age, or relatives, so it really, really, hits home the reality of what can occur and it’s difficult," said Sgt. Rick Carrillo of the Porterville Police Department.

The Treviño family is working on a plan to raise money for memorial service, but at this point they are asking for prayers from the community.
