Preparing your car for summer vacations

According to AAA gas prices are not stopping drivers from hitting the road.

This Memorial Day Weekend is predicted to see the highest volume of travelers in 10-years. Auto experts we spoke to say before you embark on a long trip checking your car could save you time and money. One of the most important things to check is your tires and fluids.

Car expert Michael Paulsen says, "I think on the fluids I would worry about the engine oil make sure it’s got plenty of oil".

Other fluid levels that need to be checked include coolant, an important part of keeping your car from overheating.

"Make sure that the engine coolant is properly leveled and that you are not leaking anything", said Paulsen.

Keeping track of when you last changed your car’s battery is also another thing to consider. Most batteries last four years, if you are getting close to that four year mark it is best to change it out rather than risk getting stuck on the side of the road.

Although most of these pre-trip inspections can be done from your own garage the car expert we spoke to recommends getting your tires check by a professional… Most places don’t charge for an inspection.
