Quadruple Shooting at Birthday Party in Southeast Fresno Leaves Two Dead

The investigation continues into a birthday party in Southeast Fresno that turned deadly early Saturday morning. Fresno Police said four people were shot just before 1am, and two are now dead. Police said the suspects are still on the run, and they’re asking for the community’s help in finding them.

Police said there was a birthday party taking place at a house near the intersection of Ninth and Church Avenues. Somehow, investigators said, a fight broke out between guests of the party and neighbors living next door. What the argument was over, remains a mystery.

On Saturday afternoon, the homes near the crime scene became clear and quiet. Much to the relief of nearby residents like Daejauni Riddley.

She described what she heard in the middle of the night, "All of a sudden I had like, heard like, a "bewhm". Like a little shot or something like a little bug."

That sound was of bullets flying.

"I heard helicopters and my sister came and got me and we went outside, and I seen a bunch of police officers, I seen ambulances," said Riddley.

Fresno police say just before 1am Saturday morning, three men and one woman were shot. Sergeant Dave Ramos said two of the men died at the hospital, and the other two victims are in stable condition.

Ramos said, "There was at least two gunman involved in the disturbance. It was very chaotic." He continued, "We’re very thankful that several small school aged children that were at the party and in the neighborhood that were out, were not struck by the gun fire."

Maria Ynez Elorca lives around the corner and exclaimed, "Scary! And more, because I have my niece and I’m scared. And what if when she grows up and she goes outside to play or something like that. And I’m scared about that."

"It makes me feel very, kind of, unsafe. Very unsafe," said Riddley.

Investigators said they don’t believe the shooting was gang-related, even though there were Bulldog gang members at the party. Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP. A reward of up to $ 1,000 is being offered to citizens who provide information to Crime Stoppers resulting in the apprehension of the involved suspects.
