The arrest of the man suspected of being the Golden State Killer shocked the nation last week. 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo is accused of being behind a string of murders, rapes and robberies that have been attributed to a suspect also known as the East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker. The former Exeter police officer is also suspected of being the so-called Visalia Ransacker – a suspect behind numerous burglaries and a murder in Visalia in the 1970’s. Now local residents are digging back into their memories and archives to learn more about DeAngelo, his time in Tulare County and the crimes of the alleged Visalia Ransacker. We spoke with Paul Meyers, a reporter and editor with the Sun-Gazette in Exeter about his coverage of the story.
