Sang Pediatrics Employees Dealing With Loss of Murder-Suicide Victim

The day after the murder-suicide that left a mother of seven dead at a downtown Fresno medical office, employees gathered to grieve.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 33-year-old Zyang Vang, also known as "Becky."

Broken glass still on the floor outside the business is a reminder of the murder-suicide that employees and patients at Sang Pediatrics witnessed Tuesday morning.

With the help of a crisis management team, employees returned Wednesday morning briefly to contact patients and cancel appointments through the week.

"None of us are okay, really, at this point," said Holly Carter with Carter & Co. Communication.

Just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said 43-year-old Neng Moua went inside Sang Pediatrics and shot and killed his ex-wife in front of several people.

"None of them have been able to sleep. They’re all recounting hearing her scream, and that’s something that they continue to say over and over again," Carter said.

Carter’s crisis management team is there to offer counseling services for the employees and patients who witnessed the violence.

The doctor who owns the business, Dr. New Sang, is a close friend of Vang’s. He was away on vacation at the time of the shooting, but booked flights back as soon as he heard of the shooting, Carter said.

In a statement, he said, "There are no words to describe how saddened we feel today upon learning of this horrific tragedy. Our family has known Zyang Vang since she was a baby and a patient of my mother, Dr. Orathai Sangrujiveth. We will miss Zyang very much and want to send our prayers to her family. Zyang has been with SANG Pediatrics for more than ten years. She was an amazing mother, colleague, and employee. She was loyal, warm and caring, and always willing to help everyone. We will do everything in our power to help the family get through this loss."

A family member of Vang, who didn’t want to be identified, said the family and Vang’s seven children are dealing with the tragedy. She shared a Go Fund Me Account under the name "Becky Vang Memorial Fund" to help the family.

Meanwhile at the office, "It’s just back and forth between tears and just good memories of this wonderful young woman that just should still be here with us," Carter said.

The tragedy has affected many.

A passerby brought flowers to the staff to show support.

"That takes a lot of courage for each one of those employees here to show up after something of that magnitude happens right in front of them," David Garcia said.

Another man, who witnessed the scene unfold outside Tuesday, expressed his gratitude to police for their efforts to protect the public.

"They did a good job containing a very tragic situation," David Piercy said.

The office may reopen Monday. Carter said for now they are focusing on offering counseling services to anyone affected.
