Sequoia Lightning Fires (Wildfire)

Lightning strikes ignited a dozen new fires across the Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument over the past few days. As of 11:30 a.m. on Sunday July 5th, the following lightning caused fires have been discovered.Western Divide Ranger District – Grey, Angora, Shotgun and Trout 2 FiresHume Lake Ranger District – Loggers, Jennie, Evans, and Rowell FiresKern River Ranger District – Pinyon, Rocky, Trout, Burton, and Piutes FiresFirefighters are using Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST) when the fires are located in the Golden Trout Wilderness. Firefighters will suppress the fire with the least impact to the land. They will stop the spread to contain it within a designated perimeter boundary made up of natural barriers, and remain onsite to ensure it stays within that boundary.
