Student Stories Celebrated at Young Author’s Faire

Learning to write is an important key to success, which is why hundreds of Fresno County students took part in a writing competition. The winners will be celebrated Wednesday night in a fun, family event called the "Young Author’s Faire."
The Young Author’s Faire will showcase original student writing to recognize and celebrate the students’ work and achievement. All student winners and a selection of honorable mentions will receive a medal. There will be booths from various community organizations for the students to visit during the faire, including published authors and their books, make and take crafts, and possibly an appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Here’s how the competition works: Teachers engage their students in the writing process. As a school, teachers and parents read the student work and comment on it. The top 10 selections from each school are submitted to the Young Authors’ Faire. A team of readers from FCOE read the submitted selections and add additional comments. They choose an exemplary selection from each of the writing categories. All submissions are displayed and celebrated at the Young Authors’ Faire.
Brigeen Radoicich of the Fresno County Office of Education is one of the judges of the children’s stories. She was on Sunrise with more on the Young Author’s Faire.
The faire is May 6 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Fresno Convention Center Exhibit Hall 3 located at 848 M Street in downtown Fresno. It’s free and the whole family is welcomed.
