Suspects Arrested After High Speed Car Chase

A suspected car thief is under arrest after a high speed chase through Fresno.<br /><br />Police tried to pull the car over at Broadway and Nevada but the driver sped off. <br /><br />The chase ended at Chestnut and University with two men in custody.<br /><br />Police focused on a neighborhood not far from the Fresno airport, where the driver of a Mustang pulled into an apartment complex.<br /><br />The driver and his passenger ran from the car. Officers found the driver hiding in one of the apartments and arrested him. The passenger was also taken into custody.<br /><br />Police identify the driver as 34-year-old Cisco Cerrato. <br /><br />&quot;The vehicle failed to yield for a traffic infraction and a pursuit was initiated through central Fresno,&quot; Sgt. Mike Smith of the Fresno Police Department said.<br /><br />The suspects got onto the freeway where they sped up to 90 to 100 miles per hour. The chase was called off, but the police helicopter followed the car overhead.<br /><br />The suspects drove into an apartment complex at Chestnut and University. They’d lost one of the wheels on the car and were driving on the rim. In the wheel-well, you could see red paint underneath the gray paint that covered much of the car. The car was originally painted red and had been repainted to disguise it after the car had been stolen earlier this month.<br /><br />&quot;The vehicle was taken in a home invasion robbery where a weapon was used,&quot; Sgt. Smith said.<br /><br />Police are now looking at that home invasion robbery to see if the suspects in the chase match the description of the suspects in the violent robbery.<br /></div>
