Teens Started Blaze That Killed Two Firefighters In Porterville, Authorities Say

Two 13-year-old boys were arrested Wednesday in connection with a massive fire in Porterville that destroyed the city’s public library and left two firefighters dead. The firefighters killed in the blaze Tuesday night were identified Wednesday as Capt. Raymond Figueroa, 35, and Patrick Jones, 25. Figueroa has been with the department since 2007 and Jones since 2017, officials said. According to a joint press release from the city’s police and fire departments, officials received information that two young men had run away from the fire immediately after it started. An investigation led to the identification of the two Porterville residents who, police say, started the fire.
