The Central Valley is the unhealthiest part of the state

A new national report shows people living in the Central Valley are among the unhealthiest in the state.

Communities in rural northern California are unhealthy too. The 2015 county health ratings ranks counties based on health outcomes. It looks at length of life and quality of life. The rankings are based on high school graduation rates, access to healthy foods, rates of smoking, obesity and teen births and it measures these factors equally.

Marin county had the best score in the state out of 57 counties. Sierra County had the worst. Merced ranked 39 out of 57, Tulare and Madera were 45 and 46. Fresno was 49th.
