Two Hanford students are credited with helping to forward a bill in Sacramento that promotes water conservation. <br /><br />Bakersfield assembly member Rudy Salas introduced AB 603 yesterday. It will establish a state tax credit for those who replace conventional grass with landscaping that’s more drought-resistant. <br /><br />Ari and Raj Grewal,who are brothers and students at Pioneer Middle School and Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford, suggested the bill by writing a letter to Salas. <br /><br />&quot;So we thought why don’t we have the same incentives and subsidies for the synthetic grass so we can have more homeowners install it and conserve fresh water,&quot; Arjeet Grewal, 14, said.<br /><br />The bill calls for a $2 a square foot tax break for synthetic lawns statewide. Whatever the bill’s fate, the Grewal brothers are pleased that they’ve done good work.<br /></div>
