Two dead after car crash at South Ave. and Chestnut

Two people are dead after a crash in south-central Fresno.

It happened shortly after 6 a.m. at the intersection of South Avenue and Chestnut. According to California Highway Patrol, the driver of the Chevy, a 55-year-old from Fresno, and his passenger died at the scene.

A Chevy Lumina heading eastbound was broadsided by a Ford pick-up driven by a 20-year-old man from Exeter, he has minor injuries.

"The white Chevy Lumina failed to stop at the stop sign. Pulled out directly in front of the F-350, resulting in severe side impact to the Lumina. Which appears to have caused the deaths of the two occupants of that vehicle," Sgt. Lenny Sherman, with the CHP, said.

CHP also tells us alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor. At this point, the names of the victims have not been released.
