The 12-week-old English Bulldog puppy made his mascot debut on the Fresno State campus Wednesday, where he showed no fear of cameras and eager fans.
"He went up to everybody. Everybody got a kiss," says Fresno State’s Paul Ladwig, who was on the committee to find the new mascot. "He takes time with everybody. He loves to play. And I just think he’ll be a great representative of Fresno State."
That Victor E. III was even needed this year was a huge, sad surprise. The previous mascot, Victor E. II, died suddenly after being stung by a bee in March. Ladwig says the school took some time before forming the committee to find Victor E. II’s replacement.
Ladwig only met the newest mascot Wednesday morning. He and others flew to Arizona, where Victor E. III and his six siblings (three boys, three girls) were bred. Just hours later, the young mascot made his debut to a throng of media.
Victor E. is owned by the university, but he will live with the Executive Director of Fresno State’s Alumni Association. Almost every day, you can find him on campus and at Fresno State events.
