Car Theft Suspect Arrested

Fresno Police announced Tuesday they arrested Keith Stump, 23, in connection to a car theft that occurred in front of the victim’s home.

The incident began, at a home on the 4000 block of Saginaw Avenue. Police said Tuesday the victims were having lunch when Stump allegedly started the family’s Honda car that was sitting outside.

"It was real quick," said Carissa Gomez. "Real crazy, unexpected. Something you don’t expect to happen on a Tuesday afternoon."

The victim, along with a friend, tried to stop Stump. The car’s windshield was reportedly broken, during a struggle. Stump managed to drive away with the car, but the family friend hopped on a motorcycle to give chase.

"It was pretty insane," said Jesus Hernandez. "I didn’t know he was going to chase after him, but the fact that he did I’m very, very, thankful for it."

Once the family friend closed in on Stump and the Honda, Stump bailed out of the car, even as it was moving. The car came to rest, on a road median near Willow and Euclid.

Clovis Police arrested Stump before he ran too far from the scene. According to Fresno Police, Stump was turned over to them by Clovis Police, once apprehended.

Police said the decision by the family friend to give chase was dangerous, since Stump had several Bulldog gang member tattoos. According to Fresno Police, Stump claimed he is a gang dropout.

In addition, Stump had warrants out for his arrest, in connection to a car theft in March, as well as fleeing from Police.
