Corrine Fire Evacuees Return Home

Days after several fires scorch the area, crews are still out working to fight the Corrine fire. Cal Fire officials say the blaze is now 75% percent contained. We’re here at the command post where as you can see behind me, crews are still here working hard, four days after the fire started. Fortunately those that had to evacuate, can now return home.

Friday morning Jennifer Elliott said she saw the unthinkable, just 50 feet from her house.

"We say the flames coming up right here, right behind our house and right over here you can see its burnt up and everything", says evacuee Jennifer Elliott.

A few minutes later fire fighters showed up, urging her family to evacuate. She said she was scared because she had her one month and two year old sons with her.

"We had to go camp out at a hotel in Fresno, fortunately they were the only ones who gave us a discount or some sort of help", says Elliott.

She says that crews told her that she was lucky to have water and a cleared defensible space around her property. The dry conditions caused more than 920 acres to burn.

Public Information Officer with Cal Fire Incident Management Team 1, Steve Kaufmann says, "our crews did experience some pretty extreme fire behavior and we did we the fire it was actually spotting up ahead of itself and making some pretty dramatic runs".

Officials say crews will be out here for the next three days, continuing to contain the fire. More than 1900 have been out working so far. Three out buildings caught fire, but luckily no one was injured because of the evacuation.

"Number one priority for us is human life and so if we can get the human life out of the path of the fire, it enables our fire fighters to actually get in there and do their jobs", says Kaufmann.

Elliott says, "it’s scary, it’s one of those scary things that you never think about till it actually happens to you".
