Erika Sandoval appeared in court today

A south valley woman accused of killing her ex-husband, an Exeter Police officer, appeared in court this morning.

Erika Sandoval, 28, will have her next court date in May. She’s facing first degree murder charges with special circumstances of ‘lying in waiting’.

Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward says Sandoval entered Daniel Green’s home and waited for him to arrive before shooting and killing him. The couple married in 2010 and divorced in 2012. Court documents detail a troublesome relationship between Sandoval and Green, with two domestic violence complaints, one in 2010 and another in 2011.

Ward says Sandoval is facing charges that could result in the death penalty if she is found guilty.

"If those charges are proven as submitted the maximum could be life without the possibility of parole or potentially death," Ward said.

Sandoval’s family was present at her previous court appearance and have said they don’t believe the charges filed against her.

Green leaves behind a 2-year-old son he had with Sandoval.
