Woman killed by train may have been trying to save dog

Pedestrian struck and killed today near Diana Street and Grant Avenue.

The accident was reported around 2:27 p.m. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

Early reports say the 50-year-old woman had been seen jumping up and down on the tracks as the train approached. It is possible she was doing so because her small dog had jumped on the tracks. The pedestrian was struck, and killed, when she tried to grab her dog off the track.

The dog was not hit by the train. The pedestrian lived close to the site of the accident.
