Former Cal Fire Battalion Chief Found Guilty of 2nd Degree Murder

A disgraced Cal Fire Battalion Chief was found guilty of murder on Wednesday in Sacramento.

57-year-old Orville Fleming was found guilty of stabbing and strangling of his fiancée 26-year-old Sara Douglas.

“My baby can rest, my baby can rest, he cannot hurt nobody,” said Trudy Werly, mother of Sara Douglas.

Orville Fleming remained unemotional as the jury returned its verdict after about two days of deliberations.

Fleming was found guilty of 2nd degree murder.

Last year, Sara Douglas was found in a Sacramento County home that the couple shared. She was stabbed and strangled.

Fleming testified he snapped and acted in a fit of range, even blacking out for part of the attack, but the jury didn’t buy it.

The victim’s family wanted a 1st degree murder charge, but are satisfied with 2nd degree. A 2nd degree charge means a minimum of 16 years in prison.

Fleming will be back in court on July 31st. The victim’s family says they’re hoping for a life sentence.
