Former UN Ambassador Talks National Security

A former United States Ambassador to the United Nations is in the Valley Wednesday talking about the upcoming 2016 Presidential Election.

John Bolton was the keynote speaker at the Fresno Republican Lincoln-Reagan Dinner. He served as a UN Ambassador in 2005-2006.

He says national security will be the top issue for the republican presidential candidate. Bolton says the biggest concern to the US is Iran’s nuclear program and ISIS.

"I think we have an incoherent foreign policy and I think it’s at odds with itself and is internally contradictory. So I think we are being left in the worst of all worlds. Iran’s nuclear threat is growing, ISIS is growing," Bolton said.

Right now the United States is using air strikes to fight the terrorist group ISIS, but Bolton believes we need boots on the ground.

"I think the Arab states the Kurds and the Turks should have the predominant role but they want to see us there beside them. I think you can understand that and I think frankly it’s to our advantage to do it," he said.

ISIS continues to capture key territories in Iraq. While, online propaganda by ISIS has convinced thousands around the world and in even here in the US to join the terrorist group.

"A UN report out today is kinda unbelievable it cited 25,000 people from over 100 countries that have recently joined ISIS or Al Qaeda," Bolton said.

Bolton says he plans on advising the Republican Presidential Nominees on foreign policy but has not backed any one candidate.
