Merced Firefighters rescue baby deer

A wind-blown grass fire spread to about 275 acres near the base of the San Luis Reservoir and Highway 152 yesterday.

No people were hurt in fire, but Merced County firefighters had to rescue a baby deer. The fawn was having trouble breathing and firefighters gave it an oxygen mask.

At last report, it was showing signs of improvement and is expected to be okay.
