Students Help Former Cancer Patient Make Her Wish Come True

<font size="2"><p>Making A Difference for Sandra is an effort Sanger High School students have been a part of to help their classmate who was suffering with bone cancer.</p> <p>Friday hundreds of students gathered during a rally for Sandra Padilla, they played games and made sure she knew they all stand behind her. </p> <p>With cheers and banners hundreds of students welcomed the 17 year old back to school. She’s been out since she found out she had bone cancer in 2013. </p> <p>&quot;It was really hard, it took me by surprise, you go from one day feeling good to the next day finding out you have cancer but I knew I had to keep going and not give up,&quot; Sandra said.</p> <p>The news was also tough for her classmates and friends so they decided to unite and make a difference</p> <p>&quot;We forget that people are facing real life situations every day and it’s our responsibility to help them and make a difference,&quot; Anthony Pimentel said.</p> <p>Sandra spent over a year in the hospital, a couple of weeks ago she tried going back to school but it was tough. Now she’s doing independent studies but is happy to know her friends support her. They made sweatshirts and bracelets to raise money and make her wish come true, a shopping spree.</p> <p>&quot;I like style, my parents couldn’t buy me a lot of clothes so to have a big amount of money to buy clothes was exciting,&quot; Sandra said.</p> <p>After a bone marrow transplant Sandra is now cancer free but she’ll continue to be a fighter, looks forward to college and hopes to become a nurse</p> <p>Her sister Maria Padilla said &quot;I’ve seen her at her lowest and seeing that smile she had right now, I can’t describe it, it brings so much joy to me.&quot;</p> <p>The Make A Difference rally known as MAD began four years ago when the student body decided to help a child with cancer and they hope to keep making a difference every year.</p></font><br /></div>
