Suspect Surrenders in Hours-long Standoff in Fresno

A tense situation with an armed suspect near downtown Fresno has come to an end.

Police said Johnny Vega refused to come out of his apartment near Clark Street, between McKenzie and Grant.

Officers said he threatened someone with an assault weapon earlier this morning and robbed the victim.

Neighbors were evacuated.

No one was hurt.

     

Police said Vega is a known gang member and is believed to have been high on meth at the time.

His sisters told KSEE24 News this behavior is not like him.

Vega could be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and making terrorist threats.
