Truck explosion in Santa Paula

A tanker-truck exploded in Santa Paula today, sending more than two dozen people to the hospital.

The truck exploded at the Santa Clara Waste Water Company, sending organic peroxide several hundred feet into the air. Authorities evacuated an area one mile from the blast site. People living within three miles of the explosion were told to stay inside.

Organic peroxide is an unstable chemical. It sparked several explosions at the site. No word yet on what caused the blast.
