There are several piles of power poles on fire at a power pole distribution business. The fiery piles cover a 2-3 acre area.
The fire started just around 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
According to FFD PIO Lawrence French, due to the fuel load, and lack of hydrants available in the area, this fire is particularly difficult to fight. The water supply is a huge concern. Firefighters are having to run several hundred feet of hose.
As the sun rises and the wind shifts, there is concern of blowing embers igniting dry grass in the area.
Six engines, two trucks, two water tenders and two Battalion Chiefs on scene.
Morning commutes in and around the Shaw and HWY 99 area will be congested due to the large fire that can be seen from a considerable distance away.
Firefighters will be in the area throughout the day.
Drivers along Highway 99 and nearby are encouraged to travel safely.
Firefighters are asking drivers to not stop or slow down to see the fire.
