CHP officer recovers after attack in Livingston

A highway patrol officer continues recovery after he was ambushed and stabbed in the face.

The incident started just after midnight, Tuesday on Linden Court near Main Street in Livingston. The officer was responding to a call, after police say someone made threats to the 9-1-1 dispatcher from a cell phone traced to the area. The officer found 24-year-old Raul Maldonado.

Shortly after, Maldonado allegedly attacked the officer and, fearing for his life, the officer opened fire. Maldonado wasn’t hit and he’s now in custody. Detectives aren’t sure if Maldonado was under the influence of any drugs at the time of the attack. He’s booked on attempted murder of an officer and assault with a deadly weapon.
